Crafty counsel has teamed up with LexisNexis and Obelisk for a series on alternative legal service providers (ALSPs).
- What exactly are they?
- Why would you use them?
- What will they do for you and your team?
- How can using ALSPs help with driving innovation?
- What about budget?

All these questions, and more, are answered in a six-part video series in which Jamie Fraser, CEO and Founder of NineNineSix Solutions and General Counsel at Wedo, interviews industry experts to delve into the ALSP landscape.
He is joined by:
- Emma Dickin, Head of Practice Area Group In-House Strategy, LexisNexis
- Dana Denis-Smit, CEO and Founder, Obelisk
- and Natalie Salunke, General Counsel, Zilch
In the first episode of the series Jamie introduces the topic and provides some context. Jamie has worked with Crafty Counsel to map out the expanding market of new companies and new law providers.
ALSPs can assist clients with a broad range of things including legal operational matters such as process improvement, gathering, and using data, new technologies and team structuring.
Jamie says that one of his key considerations when working with clients is how to help them focus on getting the work done at the right time with the right people.
He says he asks several questions about how the work ought to be done:
1) Is this for the in-house team?
2) Does it need to go externally?
3) Does it go to one of the newer legal service providers, an ALSP?
In the series, Jamie and his guests look at these questions in detail and suggest when and how in-house lawyers would best work with ALSPs. The series will also cover other topics such as legal department strategy.
Crafty Counsel has created a guide to ALSPs with the (A)LSP Circuit Board. The guide provides a map to this new landscape, and the many providers out there offering different kinds of services – from contract repapering to flexible resourcing.
We would love to hear your feedback. We want to hear what you think about the (A)LSP Circuit Board and about your experiences with ALSPs.
